Among National Demands

System in Indonesia
According to World Populations Data Sheet 2009,
Indonesia is a country with the biggest population among ASEAN countries.
Indonesia consists of 243,3 million people. Realize or not, nursing has become
the most needed health profession in Indonesia. This statement is proven In Profil Kesehatan Indonesia 2009 noted
that as many as.599 people consisting of 410.067 health workers and non-health workers.
The health workers consist of 51.805 medical workers, 278.221 nursing workers
(184.332 nurses dan dental nurses, 93.889 midwives), 19.953 pharmacies, 28.858 public
health workers, 12.762 nutritionist, 2.985 physical therapists dan 15.483 medical
technical workers. Those prove that public demands for nursing service are quite
high.
In Indonesia, Nursing profession hasn’t had yet its legal policy (UU) explaining its roles
and the range. As we know all that a few months ago, there were told a nurse
was accused to do malpractice. Malpractice is the negligence of doctors or nurses
to use the level
skill and knowledge
in treating and caring
for patients, commonly used
on patients or people who injured according
to the size of the mutual environment
(Valentin v. La
Society de Bienfaisance
Mutuelle de Los
Angelos, California, 1956).This happened in a remote area in
Kalimatan. They accuse the nurse because he gave medicines to the patients
which should be given by doctors only. In fact, the situation was urgent and
needed quick decision in deciding the first action. The cause is only that
nurses don’t have its plegal policy to control the range of action. The policy
should consist of the field area, roles, responsibilities, and rights. It’s so
ironic. In Indonesian health services, nurses hold the most part, but in fact,
the salary between doctors and nurses are imbalance. Nurses serve patients
comprehensively and visit them frequently. Indeed, the epidemic diseases and
disaster occur.
Nurses
are a health profession as well as doctors, dentists, and pharmacies. However,
they have specific roles. Nurses have two main roles : The primary role is
caring and the secondary role is curing. Nursing emphasizes caring than curing.
Before I studied Nursing, in my mindset I used to think that nurses were
doctor’s assistant. They did whatever doctors told them. During my study in
faculty of nursing, I have been taught about nursing comprehensively. Actually,
They concern on how human feel
comfortable and balanced in basic needs. Nursing sees human holistically
including biologic, psychologic, and social. In fact, nurses are mostly the
closest person to patients. Nurses give services full time.
After
attending in this event, I’ve planned to build a community and do our first
action. Actually, before I attend in this event, I and my friends from
dentistry have made a concept and grand design for our community. Indeed, Ill
start by holding health education in poor society which is held after this
event. That’s all I do in order to prove that nurses can be the agent of change
in community and have the same rights among health professions.
